Tariffs: EU Announces Countermeasures in Response to US Steel and Aluminum Duties

Milan, March 12 (LaPresse) – The European Commission has announced the launch of "rapid and proportionate countermeasures on US imports into the EU" in response to the tariffs imposed by Donald Trump on steel and aluminum imports, which it describes as "new and unjustified."

"The Commission regrets the United States' decision to impose these tariffs, considering them unjustified, disruptive to transatlantic trade, and harmful to businesses and consumers, as they often lead to price increases," the EU executive stated.

The countermeasures will apply to US exports worth up to 26 billion euros, an amount equivalent to the economic impact of the US-imposed tariffs.

"At the same time, the EU" has expressed its willingness "to work with the US administration to find a negotiated solution," emphasizing that its measures "can be revoked at any time should a solution be reached."
