Taiwan: Typhoon Danas hits the island, killing two and injuring over 300

Milan, 7 July (LaPresse) – Typhoon Danas brought strong winds and torrential rain to parts of Taiwan, killing two people and injuring over 300 on the island's densely populated west coast. On Monday, the typhoon lost intensity as it moved into the Taiwan Strait. Authorities said one person died when their vehicle was hit by a falling tree and another died when their respirator malfunctioned due to a power outage. Over 3,400 people were forced to evacuate their homes, mainly from mountainous areas around the southern port city of Kaohsiung. The typhoon also intensified seasonal rains as it passed near the Philippines. On mainland China, ships were called back to port, ferries were suspended and offshore facilities were evacuated as the typhoon approached.
