Syria: U.S. revokes terrorist designation for HTS

Washington (USA), July 7 (LaPresse/AP) – The U.S. administration under Donald Trump has revoked the terrorist organization designation for Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the group that, under the leadership of Ahmad al-Shaara, took control of Syria following the ousting of former leader Bashar Assad.
In a notice set to be published in the Federal Register on Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that he made the decision in consultation with the Attorney General and the Secretary of the Treasury. Rubio signed the revocation of the Foreign Terrorist Organization designation for the al-Nusra Front, also known as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, on June 23.
The decision had not been previously announced, but U.S. officials stated it will take effect on Tuesday.
