Ukraine, McFaul: ‘Trump only offers slogans, he has got it all wrong with the Kremlin’

And it is illusory to think that the strategy of making concessions to Moscow in the hope of getting something in return will work. Now Trump needs a “Pershing moment”.‘ This was stated in an interview with La Repubblica by Michael McFaul, former national security adviser and former ambassador to Russia under Barack Obama. ’There are at least two obvious things to do. The first is to announce that the US will launch a new military aid package to Ukraine and share the burden of defending that country with its European allies. And then Trump threatened sanctions against Russia, but never imposed them. Instead, he could do so by taking action, for example, against the “ghost” fleet that continues to transport Russian oil, or against financial institutions. And, again, he could seize the assets that the Russian central bank has in our banks in America. These are messages that would be clear to Putin,” McFaul explains.
