Education, Mattarella: ‘It remains a right denied in too many areas of the planet’

Rome, 8 September (LaPresse) – “Established by UNESCO almost sixty years ago, International Literacy Day draws attention to a challenge that is still relevant today: 754 million adults worldwide lack basic literacy skills, two-thirds of whom are women. In too many areas of the world, education remains a denied right, despite its formal recognition, and even in the most advanced societies, forms of exclusion from access to reading, writing and arithmetic persist. Illiteracy is often synonymous with poverty.” This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
