EU, socialist leader: “What’s happening in Gaza is genocide, no to empty resolution”

Brussels, Sep 9 (LaPresse) – “What is happening in Gaza is genocide. If there are issues with what we call it? We’ll negotiate. I am willing to negotiate. What I am not willing to do is accept a resolution that repeats what we’ve heard from the leaders of the People’s Party in recent months, which means nothing,” said Iratxe Garcìa Pérez, president of the European socialists and democrats (S&D) group, during a press briefing in Strasbourg. “I think it’s important that Parliament adopt a resolution. I find it very difficult to explain the silence of Parliament to the public, considering everything we’ve witnessed in recent months. It’s true that there hasn’t been silence; there have been debates, joint initiatives like letters, etc., but the fact we haven’t been able to adopt a real resolution worries me, because today we see Netanyahu insisting that all Gaza residents leave Gaza City—and today I heard from a Gaza resident, there with his family, saying: ‘Where will we go?’ Gaza is collapsing; it is a very small territory, and we want to move over 1 million people in 24 hours. Where? What is happening is a massacre,” she emphasized.
