Madrid (Spain), Sep 9 (LaPresse) – “We continue the mission, the world and the law are on our side,” said Brazilian activist Thiago Avila, participant in the Global Sumud Flotilla, during a press conference in Tunis after the group reported one of its boats, the ‘Family Boat,’ was hit by a drone while in Tunisian waters. “What happened last night shows the world whom we are dealing with, those interested in blocking a humanitarian mission aimed at feeding Palestinian children,” Avila stressed, noting the situation in Gaza City keeps deteriorating. The Family Boat is the 38th vessel to try to break Gaza’s naval siege and be attacked or intercepted over the last 70 years. “We know it’s a dangerous mission, but it’s nothing compared to what Palestinians endure daily,” the activist added, “the people of Gaza do not give up and neither do we.” Avila thanked Tunisia’s population and government for their support. A Portuguese activist on board recounted last night’s events: while on deck, he noticed a drone pass about 3 or 4 meters above his head before dropping a bomb that exploded and started a fire, which was put out. All remained unharmed. “It was a shameful attack; we will not be intimidated,” he said at the conference.
