Brussels, 17 September (LaPresse) – “At today’s College meeting, we also discussed the war in Gaza, Israel’s advance, the Israeli government’s advance on Gaza City, and a new escalation of the war, which is further aggravating the humanitarian crisis. Today, I presented a robust package of sanctions against Hamas terrorists, extremist ministers in the Israeli government and violent settlers. The Commission has adopted a proposal to partially suspend trade concessions. I want to be very clear: the aim is not to punish Israel. The aim is to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza’. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, after the College meeting. “All Member States agree that the situation in Gaza is unsustainable. The war must end. The suffering must stop and our hostages must be released. We must use all the tools at our disposal to achieve this,” she stressed.
