Milan, 18 September (LaPresse) – Three defendants in the trial for the Mottarone cable car accident have requested a plea bargain. They are Luigi Nerini, owner of Ferrovie del Mottarone, Enrico Perocchio, operations manager, and Gabriele Tadini, head of the facility. The plea bargain request was made during the preliminary hearing before the Verbania investigating magistrate Gianni Macchioni. At the opening of the hearing, prosecutor Alessandro Pepè expressed his support for the plea bargain, pointing out that it would be a “quicker” solution to reach a conclusion. Laura Carrera announced the request for acquittal for Martin Leitner and Peter Rabanser, the managers of the company responsible for maintaining the facility. Also at the opening of the hearing, it was announced in court that the Piedmont Region had withdrawn its civil action in light of the compensation agreement. In the accident, on 23 May 2021, 14 people lost their lives and the only survivor was little Etian Brian, aged 5 at the time.
