Rome, Sept. 21 (LaPresse) – “September 21 recalls the cowardly mafia attack in which, thirty-five years ago, Judge Rosario Livatino lost his life. It is an anniversary that strongly calls upon the conscience of all who care about defending our civil coexistence. A true witness to the values of the Republic, Judge Livatino devoted his life without hesitation to uphold the principles of the rule of law against the culture of violence and oppression.”
This is stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the 35th anniversary of the killing of Judge Livatino. “Fully aware of the guarantee role entrusted to the Judiciary by the Constitution, he carried out his duties, first as a public prosecutor and then as a judge, with authority and tireless dedication. Remembering his example means renewing the commitment we are all called to in order to uphold institutions that serve human dignity, against all forms of crime and abuse. Thirty-five years later, I wish to reaffirm the sentiments of the Republic’s participation and closeness to those who esteemed him and who continue to remember and bear witness to his rigor, humanity, and courage in administering justice.”
