Milan, March 24 (LaPresse) – It was a magical night for Italian fencing at the Grand Prix in Lima. In the men's competition, Italy claimed a double victory with Filippo Macchi's first World Cup win, defeating teammate Guillaume Bianchi 15-12 in a brilliant final derby, earning the gold while Bianchi took silver. Italy also earned two more podium finishes in the women's competition, with Anna Cristino in second place and Martina Favaretto in third. A four-medal haul for the team led by coach Simone Vanni, who showcased another strong performance in Peru at the elite stage of the World Cup circuit (with increased points). This achievement was made even more impressive by the fourth-place finishes of Tommaso Marini (6th) and Davide Filippi (8th) in the men's event, and Elena Tangherlini (6th) in the women's event.
