New York (USA), 23 September (LaPresse) – Humanity has entered ‘an era of reckless upheaval and unrelenting human suffering’. This is the message from United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his opening speech to the UN General Assembly. The General Assembly’s big week of meetings began on Monday with a series of events, including a conference on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the two-state solution, at which several countries, including France, announced their recognition of the Palestinian state. The main leaders speaking today are: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; US President Donald Trump; Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan; Jordan’s King Abdullah II; French President Emmanuel Macron; South Korean President Lee Jae Myung; and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa are among those scheduled to speak on Tuesday. Brazil is starting a decade-long tradition, dating back to when it was the only nation to volunteer first, followed by the host nation, the United States.
