Rome, Sept. 24 (LaPresse) – Authorization to proceed should be granted against ministers Carlo Nordio and Matteo Piantedosi, and Undersecretary Alfredo Mantovano, who are under investigation in the Almasri case. These are the conclusions presented by Federico Gianassi of the Democratic Party, acting as rapporteur for the Chamber’s Committee on Authorizations. His report will be voted on by the Committee on September 30.
Osama Njeem Almasri was arrested in Turin on January 19 and deported to Libya two days later, despite an active warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes. The ICC Prosecutor accuses the Italian government of failing to meet its international obligations by preventing justice from being served. As a result, the Tribunal for Ministers is requesting authorization to proceed against Mantovano, Nordio, and Piantedosi, considering charges including omission of official acts, aiding and abetting, and embezzlement.
