Ukraine, Draft Summit Conclusions: Ceasefire Only if Part of Peace Plan

Brussels, March 3 (LaPresse) – "A ceasefire can only take place as part of a comprehensive peace agreement; any such agreement must be accompanied by strong and credible security guarantees for Ukraine." This is stated in the draft conclusions of the extraordinary European Council on March 6, prepared by the EU ambassadors last Friday and reviewed by LaPresse. A new Coreper meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, which could modify the text of the conclusions before the summit. "The European Council emphasizes the importance of the following principles: there can be no negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine; there can be no negotiations affecting European security without the involvement of Europe. Ukraine and European security are interconnected," the text further reads.
