Music, James Senese hospitalised with pneumonia: his condition is serious

Naples, 25 September (LaPresse) – Hours of apprehension for James Senese, a Neapolitan saxophonist who was admitted to Cardarelli Hospital yesterday with pneumonia. According to LaPresse, his condition is serious. Senese, 80, the son of a Neapolitan woman and an American soldier who landed in Italy during the Second World War, grew up in the Miano district in the north of Naples and is one of the world’s most famous saxophonists. One of the leading exponents of the so-called “Neapolitan sound”, he made his debut in the 1960s with the Showmen alongside Mario Musella, before forming Napoli Centrale in the 1970s. He then collaborated extensively with Pino Daniele, participating in the Neapolitan singer-songwriter’s first albums. He is also known for several film appearances, such as in the film “No grazie il caffè mi rende nervoso” (No thanks, coffee makes me nervous), where he played himself.
