France, Sarkozy announces appeal: ‘This injustice is a scandal’

Paris (France), 25 September (LaPresse/AP) – Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has said he will appeal against his five-year prison sentence. ‘This injustice is a scandal,’ he said. ‘I ask the French people to realise what has just happened. Hatred has no limits. And if they want me to sleep in prison, I will sleep in prison, but with my head held high,’ the former president continued. ‘What happened today is extremely serious for the rule of law,’ he commented as he left the courtroom. ‘Years of investigations to prove that Libyan funding for my campaign did not exist and that the document revealed by Mediapart was a forgery,’ he continued. ‘Until my last breath, I will prove my innocence.’
