Femicides, Cortellesi: “Victims remain, a film is not enough to change things”

Rome, Sept. 30 (LaPresse) – “If a film were enough to change things, it would be a wonderful world – but unfortunately, it’s not.” This is what Paola Cortellesi told LaPresse on the sidelines of the presentation of the third season of Petra on Sky, speaking about femicides following the latest case in Benevento.

“I made the film (There’s Still Tomorrow, ed.) to talk about a topic I was already involved with,” explained the Roman actress and director. “And I must give credit to the Italian media – first, for coining the word femicide, and then for keeping count.”

“While traveling around the world with this film,” she said, “I saw that its success was linked to the subject matter, but probably also to the way it was presented. Topics like the desire for freedom and gender-based violence are common in many countries. They are recurring issues, but often not talked about.”

“Instead, Italian media deserve credit for addressing these topics and keeping track of the victims – who remain victims. They were so before, during, and after the film. Telling this story didn’t change anything. It had a social impact, and of course, I’m glad about that.”
