Rimini: young woman forced into marriage in Bangladesh, parents arrested

Rome, 1 October (LaPresse) – The Carabinieri of Rimini have arrested, in execution of a precautionary measure of house arrest issued by the Preliminary Investigating Magistrate of the Court of Rimini, a married couple from Bangladesh held responsible for serious crimes against their adult daughter. The investigation, which began in February 2025, revealed that between November 2024 and April 2025, the parents forced the young woman into an arranged marriage with a fellow Bangladeshi chosen by them, which was celebrated in Bangladesh on 17 December 2024. To convince her, the parents allegedly tricked her into travelling to her country of birth, where they took away her documents and credit card and subjected her to constant control, threats and abuse. According to the findings, the young woman was forced into marriage with a much older man from a wealthy family. After the wedding, the victim was allegedly forced to take drugs to induce pregnancy and sedatives to weaken her will. Thanks to her determination, she managed to convince her parents to let her return to Italy temporarily. Upon her arrival at Bologna airport in April 2025, the girl was immediately taken into custody by the Carabinieri and transferred to a safe location, where she told investigators what had happened.
