Germany: Oktoberfest closed due to bomb threat in Munich

Munich (Germany), October 1 (LaPresse) – Munich police are investigating a possible connection between a house arson attack involving explosives and the Oktoberfest. The festival will remain closed for the time being, authorities announced. “We are currently investigating all possible causes. Possible connections to other locations in Munich, including the Theresienwiese, are being examined,” law enforcement officials said. As reported by the German broadcaster Br, citing Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter, the festival will remain closed until at least 5:00 p.m. Police said they responded to reports of a fire and several explosions in a residential building. One person, initially injured, later died. According to reports, there was a letter from the suspected arsonist that must be taken seriously. Explosive devices were found in the house. “There is no room for risk,” authorities said.
