Prisons, Mattarella: ‘Serious phenomenon of overcrowding, very critical conditions’.

Milan, 25 Mar. (LaPresse) – ‘The Prison Police are called on a daily basis to deal with difficult situations of tension and suffering, which are becoming increasingly frequent due to the serious phenomenon of overcrowding. The high level of professionalism and spirit of service of the Corps‘ members make a decisive contribution to the implementation of the constitutional principle of the re-educative function of punishment for the possible reintegration of prisoners into social life, despite the very critical conditions of the prison system’. This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, on the occasion of the 208th anniversary of the founding of the Prison Police Corps.
