Brussels, 2 October (LaPresse) – “We demand that all rules be respected and that our fellow citizens be protected, as is only right. We are therefore closely monitoring the situation together with our European partners concerned, in particular Italy and Spain. We are paying the utmost attention. We ask all our fellow citizens who have made this choice, which is a choice of commitment, in the face of a situation that we ourselves have denounced in the most official manner and in the face of which we are acting and want to continue to act, that our fellow citizens be protected. Therefore, we are monitoring the situation. Depending on how the situation evolves, we will take the appropriate measures.” This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron as he left the European Political Community summit in Copenhagen. “We must be very clear,” he added. “Nothing can justify an operation that is not in line with international law, and the safety of our compatriots and civilians on board must be respected. We are monitoring the situation and will have a coordinated response with our colleagues in Spain and Italy in the event of unacceptable behaviour”.
