Turin, Oct 4 (LaPresse) – Jannik Sinner opened his campaign with a victory at the Shanghai Masters 1000, held on hard courts in the Chinese city. The Italian, ranked No. 2 in the world, defeated Germany’s Daniel Altmaier, No. 49 ATP, 6-3, 6-3 in one hour and 37 minutes.
In the third round, the South Tyrolean player will face Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor, ranked 31st in the world.
“I knew in advance that today would be tough, and I didn’t have much time to adapt. Every opponent and every day is challenging. I’m happy to have won and I hope to raise my level tomorrow. I’m glad to be back here; I have wonderful memories,” Sinner said after the match.
