Rome, Oct. 6 (LaPresse) – The White House has announced that mass layoffs of federal employees could begin if U.S. President Donald Trump concludes that negotiations with Congressional Democrats to end the partial government shutdown have reached a deadlock.
“President Trump and Russ Vought are preparing to act if necessary, but hope they won’t have to,” said White House National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett, referring to the White House budget director.
“If the president decides the negotiations are going nowhere, then the layoffs will begin.”
Hassett told CNN’s ‘State of the Union’ program that he still believes there is a chance Democrats will back down and avoid what could become a costly political and economic crisis.
