Australia: Armed man opens fire on street in Sydney, several injured

Turin, Oct 6 (LaPresse) – A man was arrested Sunday evening in Sydney, Australia, following a shooting spree with the police. According to The Guardian, Artemios Mintzas, 60, reportedly fired about 50 high-powered rifle shots at pedestrians, cars, and buildings in Croydon Park for over two hours before being arrested by officers. Sixteen people were injured. Mintzas was discharged from the hospital and transferred to the Burwood police station, where he is expected to face multiple firearm-related charges. Authorities reported seizing a .30 caliber rifle from the man’s apartment, located above a commercial property, along with other items. Police said there is no evidence linking the attack to organized crime or terrorism.
