Rome, Oct. 8 (LaPresse) – Jasmine Paolini continues her pursuit of a spot at the WTA Finals in Riyadh (with three places still up for grabs).
The Italian made a comeback win in her debut at the ‘Dongfeng-Voyah Wuhan Open’, the last WTA 1000 event of the season (with a prize pool of $3,654,963), played on hard courts in Wuhan, China.
She defeated Chinese wild card Yue Yuan (WTA No. 109), who had previously beaten Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti (WTA No. 74) in the opening round.
The 29-year-old from Tuscany, who reached the quarterfinals in Beijing (losing to eventual champion Amanda Anisimova), entered the tournament in the second round and won 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in 2 hours and 12 minutes.
In the round of 16, she will face Denmark’s Clara Tauson, WTA No. 12 and the 10th seed.
