Turin, 10 October (LaPresse) – It’s now official: Monica De Gennaro will no longer wear the national team jersey. The libero, born in 1988, bids farewell to the Azzurri at the end of an incredible, endless career marked by successes and performances that have rightfully propelled her into the elite of Italian and world volleyball. “The time has come to say goodbye to the Azzurri jersey. A jersey that I have loved deeply, that I have respected in every gesture, that I have honoured by putting my heart and soul into every match for almost twenty years of my life. I have known for some time that this would be my last summer wearing the tricolour on my chest. It is right to take a step back, to make room for the new talents who are growing, strong and ready, and who I am sure will write even more beautiful pages than those we have already experienced,‘ said the champion from Conegliano, who continued: ’I admit, I will miss everything. But above all, I will miss the emotions. Goodbye, National Team. From today, there will be a new fan in the stands, a new voice in front of the television. But my heart will always be there with you. Thank you, blue jersey. With infinite love, your Moki.”
