Rigopiano, families of the victims demand compensation of 50 million euros from the Abruzzo Region

L’Aquila, October 10 (LaPresse) – Lawyer Romolo Reboa, representing several families of the victims of the Rigopiano tragedy, is asking the Abruzzo Region to begin the process for compensation: 50 million euros from the regional budget. Today, the second appeal for the Rigopiano tragedy opened. The hotel in Farindola was destroyed eight years ago by an avalanche, resulting in 29 deaths. “The reporting judge of the Perugia Court of Appeal went through the key points of the Supreme Court’s reasoning,” Reboa stated today, emphasizing that immediately after the reading of the decision, the judges of Piazza Cavour affirmed the civil responsibility of the Abruzzo Region for not promptly approving the “Avalanche Map,” and the Court confirmed the causal link between this omission and the 29 victims. Reboa further added that “the Supreme Court’s ruling constitutes, in civil terms, res judicata for the Abruzzo Region, which is also involved in the criminal proceedings with its defenders, regardless of the potential criminal liability of its directors who are charged in Perugia.” The hearing took place in the criminal section of the Perugia courthouse at 9:00 a.m. and was postponed to November 17 in Perugia. The Court was asked by the Supreme Court to issue a new appeal judgment for some defendants. On December 3, the Sixth Criminal Section of the Supreme Court annulled the second-degree ruling of the L’Aquila Court of Appeal. A new trial will be held for 10 defendants, including 6 directors of the Abruzzo Region Civil Protection Service, who were acquitted in the first two levels of judgment.
