Gaza, Netanyahu fires national security advisor

Tel Aviv, Oct 21 (LaPresse) – According to a statement sent to the press today by Hanegbi, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has informed his national security advisor Tzachi Hanegbi that he will be replaced with immediate effect. A senior member of the Likud party and a minister since the 1990s, Hanegbi reportedly opposed Netanyahu’s plan to invade Gaza City during the summer. This was reported by the Times of Israel. In a note, Hanegbi acknowledged having disagreements with the prime minister: “I thanked the prime minister for the privilege of being a partner in shaping Israel’s foreign and security policy during difficult years, for the opportunity to express an independent position in delicate discussions, and for the professional dialogue we maintained, even in moments of disagreement.”
