France, theft at the Louvre: museum estimates loot at 88 million euros

Paris, Oct. 21 (LaPresse) – Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau announced that the damages resulting from the spectacular jewelry theft that occurred Sunday at the Louvre have been estimated by the museum curator at 88 million euros, purely in financial terms. “The damage was estimated by the Louvre curator at 88 million euros,” an “extremely spectacular” amount, but which “has nothing comparable or similar to historical damages,” the prosecutor told RTL. The thieves “will not earn” this sum “if they had the bad idea of melting down these jewels,” Beccuau added.
