Abuse at Beccaria: Don Burgio and Don Gino Rigoldi under investigation for failure to report

Milan, 23 October (LaPresse) – Don Gino Rigoldi and Don Claudio Burgio are under investigation by the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office in the maxi investigation into torture and mistreatment at the Beccaria juvenile prison. The news, reported in advance by Repubblica, has been confirmed by investigative sources. The two long-standing chaplains of the juvenile penal institution and well-known figures in Milan’s third sector – Don Gino is president of the foundation that bears his name and of Comunità Nuova Onlus, while Don Burgio leads the “Kairos” juvenile penal community in Vimodrone – have been entered in the register of suspects by prosecutors Rosaria Stagnaro and Cecilia Vassena, with the addition of Letizia Mannella, on suspicion of failure to report. When questioned, both stated that they were unaware of the violence perpetrated by prison police officers against the juvenile detainees.
