Argentina: Milei triumphs in legislative elections, with over 40%

Milan, 27 October (LaPresse/Ap) – Argentine President Javier Milei has triumphed in the legislative elections. His party won a crucial vote of confidence that strengthens his ability to carry out his radical free market experiment, with billions of dollars in support from Donald Trump’s US administration. Milei’s ruling party won over 40% of the vote on Sunday, renewing almost half of the lower house of Congress, according to media counts based on data from the electoral authorities. Libertad Avanza also triumphed in six of the eight provinces, key districts in the country, renewing a third of the Senate. The left-wing populist opposition movement, known as Peronism, won over 31% of the vote, the alliance’s worst performance in years.
