NBA: Wembanyama leads Spurs, Lakers win without Doncic, Fontecchio performs well with Miami

Milan, 27 Oct. (LaPresse) – Nine games were played between yesterday evening and last night in the NBA. The San Antonio Spurs remain undefeated, winning their third consecutive game, beating the Brooklyn Nets 118-107, thanks to a stellar Victor Wembanyama with 31 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks. The number one pick in the last draft, Cooper Flagg, led the Dallas Mavericks to victory over the Toronto Raptors 139-129 with 22 points. The two Los Angeles teams also won. The Lakers, without Luka Doncic (out for at least a week with a sprained finger) and LeBron James (absent since the start of the season), beat the Sacramento Kings 127-120 with 51 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists from a superb Austin Reaves. The Clippers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 114-107 with 30 points and 10 rebounds from Kawhi Leonard. In the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Milwaukee Bucks 118-113, despite 40 points, 14 rebounds and 9 assists from the usual Giannis Antetokounmpo. Donovan Mitchell scored 24 points for the Cavs. The Boston Celtics suffered their third consecutive defeat, losing 119-113 in Detroit despite Jaylen Brown’s 41 points. The Pistons were led by Cade Cunningham’s 25 points. The Indiana Pacers also suffered their third defeat, losing 114-110 to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who were without Anthony Edwards after just three minutes due to injury. The Charlotte Hornets won 139-113 against the Washington Wizards with LaMelo Ball’s triple-double of 38 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists. Finally, the New York Knicks lost 115-107 at the Miami Heat despite Jalen Brunson’s 37 points. Simone Fontecchio had another excellent game for Miami, with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 3/5 from three-point range in 18 minutes on the court.
