Matilde Lorenzi, prosecutor: ‘Safety manager and coach under investigation for death’

Bolzano, 30 October. (LaPresse) – The two individuals under investigation for manslaughter in the case of the death of Matilde Lorenzi, the skier who died a year ago following an accident on the ski slopes of Val Senales, are the safety manager for the ski slopes and ski lifts of the “Alpin Arena Senales” ski area and the coach and trainer of the giant slalom training slope. This was confirmed in a statement by the Bolzano Public Prosecutor’s Office. “The proceedings,” it reads, ‘were already entered in the register in February 2025, after the filing of a brief produced by the injured parties with two expert reports attached (one medical-legal, according to which, in light of the medical documentation already acquired, “the skier’s death was not caused by the fall along the track but by the subsequent impact against the raised edge of the slope” and one relating to any omitted safety measures that would have prevented the event from occurring) and the video recording of the dynamics of the accident’. The entire file of the FISI Federal Prosecutor’s Office was also acquired, which concluded with a dismissal order due to “the absence of unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of FISI members during the tragic event that affected the athlete”. The prosecutor’s office also announced that the preliminary hearing is currently underway, with all parties and their respective consultants present, with two experts appointed by the Bolzano investigating magistrate, ‘in order to verify whether the cause of death was determined by the athlete’s initial fall along the track or by the subsequent impact against the edge of the track, as well as to ascertain any negligence in relation to the failure to remove the kerb at the edge of the track or, in any case, the failure to put in place safety measures that could have prevented the event’.
