Bolzano, 1 November (LaPresse) – Two groups of mountaineers were involved in the avalanche that struck Ortles shortly before 4 p.m. today. The avalanche broke loose near Cima Vertana. The first group, consisting of three people, was completely swept away and the three mountaineers are reported dead. In the second group, consisting of four people, two survived, while the other two are still missing. The search has been suspended until tomorrow morning. This was announced by the mountain rescue service after weather conditions in the area became particularly difficult and put the rescue operation at risk. At the moment, therefore, the provisional toll is three dead, two men and one woman, all three German, two survivors and three missing.
