4 November, Mattarella: ‘Italy is independent and free, inspired by values of peace’

Rome, 4 November (LaPresse) – ‘The Day of National Unity and the Armed Forces that we celebrate today is a time to remember and express the country’s gratitude for what citizens in uniform did, fighting to make Italy an independent and free nation, inspired by democratic values and peace.’ These were the words of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in a message sent to the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, on the occasion of National Unity and Armed Forces Day. “The contribution of the Armed Forces over more than a century and a half has been invaluable in establishing our country’s international role. With great professionalism and humanity, in recent decades, they have intervened, on behalf of the international community, to help populations and in contexts where urgent action was needed to promote peace,” added the Head of State.
