Palermo: healthcare contracts, prosecutor requests arrest for Cuffaro

Palermo, 4 November. (LaPresse) – The Palermo Public Prosecutor’s Office, led by Maurizio de Lucia, has requested the arrest of former governor Totò Cuffaro and Noi Moderati MP Saverio Romano. The investigation, coordinated by the Carabinieri ROS, concerns corruption in a series of contracts in the Sicilian healthcare sector. The public prosecutor’s office is requesting house arrest for the two politicians. Sixteen other people are involved. Searches have been carried out at the homes and offices of Cuffaro and Saverio Romano. In the coming days, as provided for in the new reform, Cuffaro and Romano will be questioned before the investigating magistrate before a possible pre-trial detention order is issued.
