Migrants: 3 smugglers arrested in Ragusa

Rome, Nov 7 (LaPresse) – The Ragusa State Police and the Italian Guardia di Finanza have detained three non-EU citizens on charges of facilitating illegal immigration.

On November 3, a boat carrying 72 Bangladeshi migrants arrived at the Port of Pozzallo. The vessel had run aground near Isola delle Correnti, Portopalo, and was rescued by a Coast Guard patrol boat.

Thanks to an investigation by the Mobile Squad of the Ragusa Police Headquarters and the Naval Operations Section of the Guardia di Finanza, authorities were able to reconstruct the boat’s journey from Libya and identify the three alleged traffickers. The three suspects have been detained in prison at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Ragusa Court.
