US: over 800 flights cancelled today due to shutdown

Milan, 8 November (LaPresse/AP) – Hundreds of flights were cancelled this weekend at the busiest airports in the United States as a result of the shutdown. More than 1,000 flights were cancelled on Friday, when the gradual reduction in flights began, while over 800 were cancelled on Saturday. So far, the disruption has been limited, but industry analysts warn that it will intensify and be felt well beyond the air travel sector if cancellations increase and approach Thanksgiving (27 November). There are already concerns about the impact on cities and businesses that depend on tourism, as well as the possibility of repercussions on shipments, which could delay the arrival of Christmas items on shop shelves.
