Taipei (Taiwan), 11 Nov. (LaPresse/AP) – Taiwan has evacuated more than 3,000 people from areas at risk near the eastern town of Guangfu and closed schools and offices ahead of the arrival of Fung-wong, which has been classified as a typhoon but is losing intensity as it approaches the island. It is expected to make landfall tomorrow afternoon or evening near the southwestern port city of Kaohsiung. This morning, the storm had sustained winds of up to 108 km/h and gusts of 137 km/h. It is expected to cross the island and exit the north-eastern side on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, according to Taiwan’s meteorological agency. Schools and offices have been closed in Hualien and Yilan counties, while weather authorities have issued a warning covering southern and south-western areas, including Kaohsiung, Pingtung County, Tainan and Taitung.
