Deschamps’ team beat Ukraine 4-0 in Paris with a brace from Mbappé (Olise and Ekitik also scored), securing their place in the World Cup. Portugal, defeated 2-0 by Ireland in Dublin, will now have to beat Armenia to qualify. Ronaldo was involved in a nasty foul, elbowing an opponent and being sent off in the 59th minute. Asllani scored to send Albania to the play-offs with one game to spare thanks to a 1-0 win over Andorra and Serbia’s 2-0 defeat to England (goals from Eze and Saka). These are the results of the penultimate round of European qualifiers: Armenia-Hungary 0-1; Azerbaijan-Iceland 0-2; Andorra-Albania 0-1; England-Serbia 2-0; France-Ukraine 4-0; Ireland-Portugal 2-0.
