Catania, 1,500 explosive devices sent by courier seized

Milan, 16 November (LaPresse) – A large seizure of explosive devices in Catania: the police intercepted 1,500 firecrackers and “Maradona” balloons, weighing a total of over 255 kilograms and with an estimated value of more than €25,000, sent by an unsuspecting courier. The alarm was raised by an employee of the shipping company, who noticed suspicious writing on some damaged boxes. Bomb disposal experts then safely detonated the material, causing a crater about five metres in diameter. The incident highlights the danger of illegal trafficking in explosives and the importance of checks on shipments.
