Rome, 18 November (LaPresse) – Italy has fallen in the global rankings for combating climate change. According to the new Germanwatch 2026 annual report presented at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, our country has dropped from 43rd to 46th place. The report – Climate Change Performance Index 2026 – details global climate performance. Italy – explains Legambiente, which produced the document for Italy – is “increasingly far behind the leaders: Denmark, the United Kingdom and Morocco”. The worst performers are “the United States, Iran and Saudi Arabia. China has moved up one place”. “Global climate action is making progress,” observes Legambiente, “but countries are moving too slowly in achieving climate targets. Italy is paying the price for short-sighted political vision. A green shift is needed to make Italy a hub for renewables and combat the climate emergency”.
