Frankfurt (Germany), Nov. 21 (LaPresse) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump regarding the US peace plan for Ukraine. A German government spokesperson told LaPresse that the phone conversation, which lasted about 15 minutes, was “constructive and built on trust,” and that “further steps” of coordination between their advisors were agreed upon. Merz, the spokesperson added, will now inform European partners about the content of the discussion. “I have just discussed the peace plan for Ukraine with US President Donald Trump, in a positive and confidential phone call. We have agreed on next steps at the advisors’ level. I will now inform European partners,” Merz then posted on X. Trump’s initiative for the peace plan, German media report, took European countries by surprise, and—according to German government sources—they are now working on their own mediation document, which is still being defined.
