Regional elections, Schlein: ‘There is no turning back from this coalition’

I think we are all now aware that standing together around a shared programme is not enough, but it is necessary to defeat the right. The message from the polls is very clear: there is an alternative, and it is competitive. The redemption starts in the South, and in 2027 it will lead us to victory against the most anti-Southern government in history, which wants to divide Italy with differentiated autonomy.” This is what PD secretary Elly Schlein told La Repubblica after the regional elections, which saw the success of centre-left candidates in Campania and Puglia. For Schlein, the centre-left’s experience in the two regions ‘is the right path to follow, knowing that we are not starting from scratch’.
