Copa Libertadores: Flamengo triumphs, defeating Palmeiras in the final

Lima (Peru), 30 Nov. (LaPresse) – A goal in the 67th minute by former Juventus player Danilo was enough for Flamengo to secure their fourth Copa Libertadores title in the Brazilian derby final against Palmeiras, played at the Monumental in Lima (Peru). ‘I scored the goal for the team of my life,’ said Danilo after the match, ‘I knew we would have an opportunity from a set piece and I managed to take advantage of it.’ Danilo is a specialist in the competition, having lifted the trophy twice. He has won the same number of Champions League titles (both with Real Madrid). Jorginho is also celebrating: the former Italy playmaker (now at Flamengo) lifted the Libertadores trophy after winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021. Flamengo is the Brazilian team with the most Libertadores titles, ahead of Palmeiras, Santos and Gremio (all on three). Among other South American clubs, it joins Argentina’s River Plate and Estudiantes. Only Independiente (7), Boca Juniors (6) and Peñarol (5) have won more Libertadores. The triumph brings £20 million into Flamengo’s coffers, which also acquires the right to compete in the Club World Cup in 2029.
