Hong Kong fire: independent commission of inquiry

Hong Kong, Dec. 2 (LaPresse/AP) – Hong Kong will set up an independent commission of inquiry led by a judge to determine the cause of the deadly apartment building fire that shocked the city and to make recommendations to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again, said its leader John Lee, chief executive of the Chinese region, on Tuesday, pledging to overcome vested interests and pursue accountability for a fire that killed at least 151 people. “We must find out the truth, ensure justice is done, let the deceased rest in peace and offer comfort to the living,” he told the media in a weekly 30-minute appearance completely dominated by last week’s fire.
