Prisons, La Russa: “‘Mini-pardon’ for Christmas, if it doesn’t pass I won’t get angry”

Rome, 3 Dec. (LaPresse) – A ‘mini-mini-pardon’ for Christmas. This is the proposal of Senate President Ignazio La Russa, who, when approached by journalists, returned to the topic of the prison emergency. “My appeal as Senate President is about something that no one can contest. It’s something I have always said, not only because a friend like Gianni Alemanno asked me, but because I was a lawyer; it’s an issue I have always supported,” he explained. “The hopes are modest, but we must not forget what the government is doing, we must not underestimate the great progress in the project to create ten thousand new detention places within a year. I am not referring to a specific proposal anymore,” he added. “I say let’s allow those who are about to leave prison after serving almost their entire sentence, and if they are very close, let them spend Christmas at home. This is my proposal, but I won’t get angry if it cannot be accepted. I fully understand the reasons of those who say this could be an incentive to commit crimes. I understand the reasoning, I don’t really understand the logic, but I still think something like this is right to propose.”
