Madrid (Spain), Dec. 4 (LaPresse/AP) – Spain and the Netherlands have decided to withdraw from the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest due to Israel’s participation. Dutch broadcaster Avrotros said that Tel Aviv’s participation “is no longer compatible with our responsibility as a public broadcaster.” Spanish public radio and television broadcaster Rtve expressed “serious doubts about the participation of Israeli television station Kan.” “The situation in Gaza, despite the ceasefire and the approval of the peace process, and Israel’s use of the contest for political purposes, make it increasingly difficult to maintain Eurovision as a neutral cultural event,” said Rtve Secretary General Alfonso Morales.
