Rome, 5 December (LaPresse) – “Avoiding the strike? That depends on the government. So far, it has refused any discussion. I believe that at this point, it is absolutely important to show that the majority of the country, of workers, is asking the government for real change.” These were the words of CGIL Secretary Maurizio Landini, on the sidelines of a union initiative on wages ahead of the strike on 12 December. ‘The manoeuvre,’ said Landini, ‘continues to make employees and pensioners pay, who have already paid 25 billion more in taxes than they should have; it does not reform the tax system, it blocks pensions, it continues to make money off young people who remain in precarious jobs, and it does not intervene in the system of contracts and subcontracts, which kill and exploit people.’
