Tokyo (Japan), 8 December (LaPresse/AP) – Twenty-three people were injured, one seriously, in the 7.5 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of northern Japan. The National Fire and Disaster Management Agency reported that most of the injuries were caused by falling objects. NHK television reported that several people were injured in a hotel in Hachinohe and that a man in Tohoku was slightly injured when his car fell into a hole. A 70-centimetre tsunami was recorded in the port of Kuji, in Iwate Prefecture, just south of Aomori, while waves of up to 50 centimetres hit other coastal communities in the region, the agency reported. The Japanese government said the damage is still being assessed.
